How could something evolve from nothing?
The constant; the very thing
That made the skin, its astonishing elasticity
And what’s beneath, where to start!
Bones, sturdy strongholds that keep us together,
Connected by joints – to wave “hello” to a loved one,
Or stranger; to jump and land, knees bent, and to rise
Again, in honor.
And blood, circulating – does blood have a mind
To control its paths? To blot?
And organs- each one essential to the part it plays-
To make the body work, so we can be
And be great, and bring glory to that very thing
That connected these pieces to be one.
And each organ is made of its own essentials
And it works – how could that be?
Would you believe some think, it just came to be-
This magnificent body that runs marathons, that sleeps,
That eats; plays baseball; that hugs to show love –
The millions of puzzle pieces needed to create
Such actions are too lofty for me to attain…
How could something evolve from nothing?
The brain. Well, wouldn’t we be so fortunate
That coincidently, all the right pieces
Came together, and created itself to be
Something that controls our every move,
Our every feeling, word, thought –
All the right pieces – did they have a magnetic force
To bond them together –
Now I can learn all things there are to know;
I can love something with words;
Destroy with words; cry when I’m flustered.
This brain I have is extravagant,
And I’m not doing it any justice.
Its complexity is too lofty for me to attain…
How could something evolve from nothing?
Where’s the constant? The very thing
That has not, does not, will not change.
And there my trust will be laid, forever.
