Hiking

All my life I have heard
that all endurance means
is putting one foot in front
of the other one.

I never did understand
what it meant but
decided that I must
keep on walking.

Great wisdom. Reminds me of Basho in a way. Not the form, but the great wisdom that is gained at the end of the poem. I also like the speakers honesty and willingness to express the true human condition, thus the mind does not always comprehend human limitations. I really enjoyed your poem.

    Like the poem...

I suggest deleting the words 'all' and 'is', but that is a matter of taste.

I like the way your idea comes across that you keep going, steadily and slowly. These days we have to to get anywhere, otherwise we would give up. I like the way you have divided the poem into two main meanings.

Your comments always are like a mini-critique and help me with rewriting the poem--a great big thank you!

Thank you for your comment. I also like the short ones the best--yeah not only for the comment but for the cat, impatient cat that is telling everyone to get busy writing (always brings a smile)!

Thank you because it brought up a wonderful memory that I had forgotten! My Mom always use to say this when I wailed I couldn't do something--"one foot in front of the other!"
