Falling Over the Edge

When I think of certain things
I just go crazy.
Sometimes because I'm in love
But also because I'm just weird.

When I think of the love I have,
I feel as if I were a river.
And sometimes I dream of this in black and white;
It's hardly ever in color.

The river flows so softly,
Barely moving, gently pulling.
It's always grey in color,
While the plants are shaded
And the sky is always white.

The fish swimming by are dark blobs,
And the rocks in front and behind,
Well, they have a more definitive shape.
The trees always blow in the quite breeze.

Occasionally there is a fog
That represents all of my confusion.
I have this feeling,
But I have no idea where it came from!

Suddenly, the water tugs harder.
The current begins to get swifter.
Eventually I just let it pull me
To wherever it wants me to go.

My heart pounds in excitement,
And my head whirls in confusion.
My legs go numb;
My breathing speeds up.

Then I'm falling, falling,
Down, down, down.
I am engulfed in a pool of water
And I can't breathe anymore.

Arms pull me out and hold me,
Someone's lips are whispering things
Saying "It's okay, you're safe now."
I am amazingly calm.

I wonder what happened.
My memory fails to remember!
I begin to panic that I will forget,
But those lips just won't let me.

They gently caress my cheek
And those strong arms wrap around my waist.
I abruptly feel dry and warm.
Confusion engulfs me once more.

He senses it, and asks me
What made me tense up that way.
He's been holding me forever
And now he won't let go.

There was never a river,
And there was never a waterfall.
My dreams are still in black & white,
But my life sure isn't.

This is what it feels like to fall in love.
I hope to feel it again,
But this time,
I will already be in love.
