From the very beginning, I didn't understand
The way pieces of my heart shook apart
How they fell in with the rubble of my life
You were just the one to grasp the last piece
Left with a tenuous hold on a shattered dream
What it was you were so achingly reaching for
The essence of hope I thought I could give
Was more than I could bear and less than you craved
Each hour the burden grew, I was not strong enough
I could not give enough to you in your dire need
What you reached for was more brittle than it appeared
At first touch, the little hope remaining faded
I could feel you slipping and I didn't make it in time
Tears filling my eyes, I felt you slowly fall away
There wasn't anything that I could do to help you
What you yearned for was something I couldn't give
Nothing I could have done would have been enough,
I only pray you found what you needed

This piece holds much depth to grieve. The pain of watching love slip right through your hands, unable to grasp the reigns.
"The essence of hope I thought I could give
Was more than I could bear and less than you craved"
I especially enjoyed these lines above, made far too much sense to my own pained heart. thank you for your entry & Best wishes in the contest!
