On a battlefield we hear the dying screams
no-one cares; no-one helps.
We all look after number one;
ourselves.
After all; all is fair in love and war.
Dirty tricks;
to get what we want
whether it be a person
or an objective.
All's fair in love and war.
On a battlefield you see the wounded lying there;
who gets up to help them?
Who's brave enough not to put themselves first?
More often than not no-one
After all; all's fair in love and war.
Lies, twisting words and cheating
are our main weapons
with them we cut down our opponents
and leave them broken and ruined.
All's fair in love and war.
On a battlefield weapons so terrible
that they should never see the light of day
are weilded
with deadly accuracy.
After all; all's fair in love and war.
Sneaking around, making deals;
setting other people up for a fall.
To get what we want;
what we need.
After all; all's fair in love and war.
On a battlefield people are thrown away
like lambs to the slaughter.
The generals treat it as a chess game
as they play with peoples lives.
All's fair in love and war.
Cutting down
whomever gets in your way
to get that which you most want.
Showing no mercy.
After all; all's fair in love and war.
But when it happens to you;
when you're the soldier
lying in your own blood.
Dying and hurting.
Is it fair then?
When you're the person
who's been thrown aside
so someone else
can get what they want.
Is it fair then?
When you're left alone
crying and hungry or
bleeding and dying
victims of that phrase.
All's fair in love and war.
You ask yourself.
Is it?
Author notes
Just looking through my notes after college (haven't been on in a while due to my workload) and this prompt just jumped out and grabbed me. I had to write it.

Indeed, indeed, Is It Fair Then?
You have accurately pointed out the truth of "all's fair in love and war," a proverb that surely came straight out of the pits of hell.
And, it is almost as if my entry summarized your very gifted poem!
You might want to review the following lines for proper usage: 1) when your the soldier -- your/you're;
2) laying in your own blood -- laying/lying;
3) who's be thrown aside -- be/been.
Nevertheless, your talent is great!
Much love in Christ, BonnieQ

Thank you for the time you took in pointing those things out. I've changed them now and hopefully it reads better.
Yes well my Grandad used to tell me things about his time in the RAF and I studied History for one of my A-levels and to be honest war does sicken me. Which is something I tried to get across in this; also one of my friends suffered really badly due to heartbreak and the person reponsibly just threw back at her "All's fair in love and war" which really just made me mad.
So I'm glad I managed to take all of that and put it in here.
Thanks again!
