I’m an American soldier,
And I died today,
To protect my family,
And the U.S.A.
I was called one morning,
To serve for my country,
I was ready to protect,
Like I said I’d be.
I held my wife,
And kissed my children,
Just wondering if,
I’d ever see them again.
A crystal tear escaped my eye,
As I loaded onto the plane,
Watching them from down below,
My heart filled with pain.
I threw away my sorrow,
And took it like a man,
I told myself I’d live,
And that I’d stick to that plan.
Fighting and Killing,
Controlling and Seeking,
Running and Hiding,
Praying and Sneaking.
Months of the same war,
Made my stomach turn,
The thick dust and smoke,
Made my lungs burn.
I tried to protect,
I gave it my all,
Though when my death date was present,
My life came to a halt.
I was shot in the gut,
It sent me for a loop,
My fellow soldiers stopped to help,
But strongly I said, “Go on, troops.”
So I lay there preparing myself to die,
I was in a great deal of thrashing pain,
I thought of my beautiful wife,
My four children and the one we were expecting.
I wanted to serve my country
I did until my death
“I love you all so much,” I said,
And then took my last breath.
God Bless the U.S.A.

God bless them indeed. I really hope that someday, people realize that hate just breeds more hate, and then your poem wouldn't have to be so true.
