A Soul’s Journey

I have seen the glory

of what was before, a truth

that has outlived many.

I am a mature spirit,

traveling the roads

of eternity,

I remember songs of angels,

chants of demons, many wombs

and sorrow of life

as I built pyramids

along side a myriad

of laborers

with grimaced faces,

we felt sweat stinging our eyes,

and the whip

ripping our flesh.

I have gazed upon

Roman legions encamped and

the face of Christ

as He suffered on the cross.

I have been a pauper,

a rich man, a sinner

and a saint.

I have lived many lives

in many ages, gleaned the wisdom

of kings and sages.

Be these dreams, or nightmares?

I don't know but...

I do know that, these visions

are as real as life itself,

and sometimes the two blur,

one into another.

Author notes

I believe my soul is immortal.

    an immortal soul...
    i like that. Your writing
    has taken on a philosophical
    turn...must have been the
    journey taken.

    Love, Lane

    this is interesting indeed.
i wonder why the roads of eternity are 'broad' rather than 'long'. that seems like a unique word choice.
    good luck in my contest.

There are times when your words take my breath away with the feelings you share. We've talked about the journey of our souls and I truly believe that they are immortal, Michael and that one day they will eventually reach the destination they search for through time and space. Your poem reinforces that belief for me. Thank you

My best wishes to you in the contest dear.

    Love Margaret

Very intelligent and surreal. Conveys the message clearly.

    I remember songs of angels,

    chants of demons, many wombs

    and sorrow of life...

    Stunning!
