Breaking out from backyard fences,
slapping elbow to the grain;
Six blocks to Nelson's for a habit
of alcohol or other strains.
Soles pound pavement in four-fourths time,
counting the slides as she clicks across
my mind's projector; a clouded paste
of fading light and Spanish moss.
By riverbeds we sunk in with cypress,
while cigarettes foamed with the mist.
So now as ankles cut the curbs illegaly,
I push her back and long for the thirst.
