My Playmate

I had always thought that I had been alone
In my nearly forgotten childhood days
But now a memory persists in my mind
The image of a face that will not go away

~ ~ ~

Someone was there with me in the woods
Searching with me for fairies,
Building homes for them next to tree roots,
And decorating them with berries

~ ~ ~

Who was it that followed me through the golden fields
Chasing butterflies and plucking wild flowers?
Who let me hide under his coat with him in the rain?
Who read me children's stories past bedtime hours?

~ ~ ~

Who was my dream-boy when adolescence came?
To whom did I cling to keep my heart steady?
Who told me tales of the forgotten planet
And told me I would meet him when I was ready?

~ ~ ~

Who did I forget when cold logic filled my mind
And I thought there was no reason to live?
I saw someone's face in all the lovers I found
But when the image faded, I had nothing to give

~ ~ ~

Who did I unconsciously hope for in the night
Each time I gazed up at the stars
Hoping one of them was him, flying down to me
To take me from this earth, to home, somewhere far...

~ ~ ~

Who am I crying out to like a frightened child?
Pleading for his return before I go insane
Before I die of loneliness,
Of sorrow, or of pain

~ ~ ~

There is no end to the question
of who haunts my soul tonight
For the memory bell is chiming
And I am always feeling his light

~ ~ ~

In my childhood days, I had a friend who
I am certain had followed me from above
And now as I wait for my playmate's return
He will always remain my one true Love

Please tell me what you think

I wonder if I have an idea who this is I relate to alot of this so much, I could have written it myself...if I could write like you can

I think your emotion and wonder really shine through here...the answers you seek (and I know you are looking ), and the hope and contentment you do, and will continue to, find...

I think I could go on and on but, I really like this, the beginning especially reminds me of myself at one time.

    Wow, this got me curious...

...but putting that aside, I was impressed that you kept your rhythm and rhyme through to complete the subject. It was a lonely piece, but I rather liked it! Good job!
