They say there's nothing quite like
a New York City midnight
When the neon lights fill up the sky
But she never saw what they saw
in the New York City Nighttime
When all the stars were forced to hide
It wasn't worth it,
don't you see?
City Girl wasn't
her destiny.
She can't help it,
she's backcountry born and bred
and between her and heaven
lies forty miles of unpaved road
she's leaving the city
to go and face the unknown
she's leaving this dump behind,
and now she's going home
where the chance is hers to take
her life is hers to make
her heart is hers to break
and she wouldn't miss a minute of it
Taxi cabs and subways
were never able to allure her
Fifth avenue simply had no appeal
Green forests, trees, and tiny creeks
Were what had always bewitched her
And the life that she now lived just seemed unreal
'cause a skyscraper
seems so small
Next to her mountain-
oh so tall.
And she couldn't keep living her parents dream,
and be an engineer.
Those were just more words she didn't want to hear.
Because we all have to reach for our shining star
but it can start to seem too far
when you've got someone breathing down your back,
trying to tell you who you are.
And these words keep flying
from the pen in my hand,
About a girl who grew up
in some urban land,
Who had an enormous choice to make.
Because the path before your feet
Isn't the path you've gotta take
Between her and heaven
lies forty miles of unpaved road
she's leaving the city
to go and face the unknown
she's leaving this dump behind,
and now she's going home
where the chance is hers to take
her life is hers to make
her heart is hers to break
and she wouldn't miss a minute of it, no
Because she's one mile down that road,
with only thirty-nine to go

ok sorry but how the hell am i supposed to give no praise! thats one of the - no, probably THE best song I have ever read! fine. as far as FEEDBACK goes, I'd say you should split this line into two "Those were just more words /she didn't want to hear." (I put the split in there). I really cant think of anything else, and because I am your friend, I am ignoring you intructions. I love this song. It's really really amazing. Makes me feel guilty for sitting here at a computer.

Wow. That's totally different from when I last read it. It's really good. But now the tune I had doesn't fit it, so you have to sing it for me at some point.
