My temper's name is Wilson

Carry my temper in a holster in the small of my back,

when riding working, why do you ask?

I work in a man's world handle a lot of cash.

better to have protection then regrets.

I carry no remorse, heartache or pain

for the knife in my pocket is to cut a lead rope,

twine ,anything , when haying or a horse is in trouble

the one in my boot is for me and you'll never see it coming.

I learned the hard way at a very young age,

cowgirl up

when you want to be the best you can be at your passion

put your everything to it.

some man who does not will always want what you've got

or want you.

Come meet my peace maker Wilson Combat 45 lite

Kershaw nato 55double edge best to cut and run with.

I don't cuss , drink or smoke but yes

I am this kind of girl

if you hurt me or mine.

you will never see it coming cowboy

until you hear the ambulance wailing.

No man wants to admit being hurt by a girl.

Learned to handle my temper and my anger

very well thank you for asking,

I am just fine.

I loved this. I kind of know the feeling; I collect pocket knives, and wherever I go, I almost always have one on me. Well, except school, usually.
My personal favorite, the one I generally carry is actually the smallest...maybe 2 1/2 inches long, when the blade is extended - and that's counting the hilt as well. There's a reason it's my favorite, though.
So yeah..I can agree with this poem entirely.

the small case knifes are pretty and some of the others .. i collect like i do pretty earrings lol beautiful the smaller they get the prettier I am with you on that.
      you go cowgirl.

  • "Carry my temper". Thanks for reminding me that a temper is not always something to be ashamed of, not always a bad thing to have. It can be useful. I have one, didn't always have as much of one. But it can come in handy. "Learned to handle my temper", you say. I guess you have to know when to use it, know when to fold it, etc. as Willie Nelson said about card games.

    Enjoyed your write.

Give me a reason give me a cause..I will come running in no time at all. I am worried.

  • Okay, so I'm a little slow when it comes to checking out your work. This took me back more years than I care to talk about. Rodeos, cutting competitions, bucking out rough stock, just hanging out and killing time. All the cowboys around home knew better than to mess with a cowgirl. If she didn't get ya her daddy would. This is very impressive. Loved it.

    I certainly relate!

I feel like I have had to be tough "like a man" sometimes in my life too. Especially since the one's who were supposed to protect me often turned on me. Who is going to protect us from those who are "protecting" us.
My stepfather had bouts of rageful paranoid schizophrenia and my late husband was an abusive alcoholic at times. This explains some of it.

In general; it's the reality that we live in - we must protect ourselves or who else will? I learned this at an early age. It's nice to have protection from others - but don't rely on it! I have a daughter in her 20's and I have taught her all of this too. You'd better believe it. Not looking for trouble - but not going to take it lying down either!!

I became the "Amazon Woman Warrior" so to speak. I carry my protection around too. I have a gun, my pepper spray, (among other arsenol) and yes - I know a few moves. lol's

I pray every day that I don't have to use them. Call it paranoid, but I am prepared, like you. It's called "Reality hurts if you are not prepared for it!"

    Love you sis,

    Karen

My dad's name is Wilson... Lol, and does he EVER have a temper

I must admit, I liked your poem. But I'm a little curious as to what you're talking about, whether it's a knife, a gun, or whatnot. Either way, I'm interested to find out more. Well done, and good luck!

Both Laura Hi and thank you and the rest of you ladies. . I have always carried a boot knife when trail riding. Taught by my grandfather to do that. My husband was a small weapons expert and a Marine sniper( Vietnam) he is in a book never without heroes.. my step son was also a sniper in Somalia and a few other places. My father was Army he passed away from DA brain tumors blow to the head in service Korea, My step father Army I have Native American great grand mothers . I also use to use a long bow I do not have the strength I use too. we all use to use bows of types mine was natural the others were not. the Wilson is a pistol I own several I have a great respect for them. I have a lady colt lite 380 I also carry I am licensed to carry concealed. the work with horses .. insured for and worth two and three million dollars stud fees were high before the drought. Sometimes with insurance you have to protect your barn against the owners. A nice fire money collected I boarded horses bred and showed for these people . Maybe it makes more sense to some now.. though you know and I know if a man had written this so many people would not have read it and not left a comment=) thank you all for reading and commenting. The NC mountains look a lot like Vietnam as a family we spent a lot of time living in them I grew up here they are a Veterans peace now they are bought up over crowded so sad..oh well so you see it is natural to me and to my daughter.
my spell check is out you will forgive me here?

I like the statement this makes - that just because we are a woman doesn't mean someone can mess with us, that we won't fight back to protect ourselves and our own!
    Well done!

I don't recall ever reading anything by you before and this link was passed to me by my ap sis, angelwithdarkwings. I think you did an awesome job with this. I could sense a strength and determination in your words to protect you and yours and I cannot fault you for that. Sometimes living in this world can be tough and it helps to have an equilizer to fall back on.

Good luck in the contest dear.

I'm going to try this again.. I just got booted in the middle of my comment.
this poem is all you, I'm proud of you for writing this.
we as women need to know that its okay and we can stand on our two feet. that we are strong enough to do things on our own.. I remember when I was 24 and I allowed a man to control my life.. I paid for that dearly sister pot, you know that.. it maybe a man's world we live in, but doesn't mean we back down.. we stand together and fight it.. together.. this piece that you've written reached inside and pulled not only on my heart but soul to.. Your words are strong, like you. there is an important message here and I think that it needs to be heard. not just read and then walk away from it.
I know that many women can understand this. our strength lies within each and every one of us..

this stanza is the one that I love the best.. I love your entire piece don't get me wrong but this one is what stood out to me

"I don't cuss , drink or smoke but yes
I am this kind of girl
if you hurt me or mine.
you will never see it coming cowboy
until you hear the ambulance wailing.
No man wants to admit being hurt by a girl."

and the ending packs a punch

"Learned to handle my temper and my anger
very well thank you for asking,
    I am just fine."

Brilliant write sister pot. I would give you gold for this..

I love you and good luck in the contest

If you look past the tough outer skin of this poem you find a poem that expresses the independence and strength of womanhood. Women are no longer yoked to the whims of their male masters. Sisters are doing it for themselves. Excellent writing!

The sentiments expressed here are rather beyond my ken - I mean, would you suggest all girls - cow, shop, assembly-line carry an arsenal? There are some places where punctuation would assist ie:

"...lead rope twine anything , when haying or a horse is in trouble..."
might be better showing as: "...lead rope, twine, anything, when haying or a horse is in trouble..."

A most intense and personal piece of work.
