with an uneasy shudder,
as he beheld the Great Time War
on the view screen…
His TARDIS was rigged,
primed with a weapon that he desperately
hoped he would never have to use.
But the Daleks had taken the cruciform,
making the emperor more powerful
than anyone could have foreseen.
The Timelords were making their last stand.
The Daleks outflanked them
in both numbers and strategy.
It was futile, they were facing defeat,
and soon Gallifrey would fall.
This realisation alone filled him with a sorrow
and dread that chilled him to his soul.
His race faced extinction, soon to be a mere
footnote in the pages of eternity.
The stuff of myths and legends…
He reminisced of his own actions,
over several incarnations
that had led him to this moment.
Was it he who had struck the first blow?
So long ago, meddling in their development
at the very dawn of their creation.
Or three lifetimes later when he tricked Davros
into destroying Skaro with the Hand of Omega.
Yes, he had certainly antagonised the Daleks
far more than any other Timelord.
Even in the legends of Skaro he was feared.
They had called him the oncoming storm,
which had amused him greatly.
But now, several lifetimes later,
battle weary and numb to the countless lives
that this endless war had claimed,
he just wanted an end to it, he wanted peace…
After many Temporal skirmishes,
Davros had died at the Gates of Elysium,
flying into the jaws of the nightmare child.
It was hoped that the death of their creator
may have weakened their resolve for war.
But no, they had become far more aggressive,
far more determined and far more ruthless.
Many worlds fell from the stars,
burning as the laws of causality went into flux.
His reverie was suddenly broken
as another temporal shock resounded
around the console room rocking his TARDIS
to the very core of its foundations.
‘Don’t worry old girl, we’ll get through this’
He patted the console affectionately.
Then frowning, with grim determination,
he threw the dematerialisation switch
and detonated the weapon.
The effect was devastating, the universe
screamed its rage and pain as Daleks
and Timelords alike perished in temporal flame,
time-locking the ‘Last Great Time War’
as a small blue Police Box drifted out of its influence.
But alas, the Doctor was not unscathed by events,
fore he too had burned, forcing a miraculous change,
as he regenerated on the console room floor,
literally becoming a new man.
He just lay there as tears welled up in his eyes
and numbness crept throughout his being.
He truly was the destroyer of worlds…
Author notes
Doctor Who... (Fave fictional character)
This is a fantasy homage of the last moments of the occasionally mentioned Time War that acts as a bridge between the Old & New series & the Doctor's involvement in it...
As a big fan of both the books & the series, this is my homage to them...
Pic: The Seal of Rassillon, also known as the Seal of the High Councel of Timelords... It is also the tattoo I have on my arm...

This is fantastic! Exactly what I wanted; and I ADORE Dr. Who (and not just because David Tennant is delicious) I'm afraid I didn't like the earliest ones much, there was soething about the "Doctor's girls" in that period that struck me as really off.
I had no idea there were tooks! I will absolutely have to go and read them now!
As far as the poem goes, you created a wonderful image of the pain and anxiety he felt when destroying the universe. I really enjoyed it.
Good luck in the contest! -
Sweet! I never expected someone to enter a poem about Dr. Who, but this was extraordinary. I could visualize it happening. Way to go!
-
Excellent write and a well deserved trophy.. I loved the series and am desperately sorry to see David leave the show, as he has been my favorite Doctor since Tom Baker, so you can see how long I've been watching.. It's still hard to get it full time in the US and I don't know how happy I'm going to be with the new one, I certainly hope he's up to Tennant's version..

Points earned.
This poem was scored a 13 out of 20.
(Personally, I wanted this one to be one of the winners D
You got 4th place. -
Wow, this is really great and a terrific tale that was extremely well-wrought and a real pleasure to read. Best of luck, and thanks for entering.

OOoooo
I like this a lot! Im at a loss for words at the moment. It is really great. I feel like I have stepped into this world and not just hovered around the words discribing it. Fantastic job!

-
You have done fairly well so far
with this Dr Who poem. However, there is a difficulty using a poem many times for differing specifications. I am sure, poet, that you appreciate that. You have given me narrative where I wanted characterization.
Thank you for entering.

a great piece, very detialed and ricj and i love the ending, he is always confused too when he regenerates, when he turned into the present doctor he was in bed in jammies for a bit lol

-
ah yes
the time lords rule, I fear I am trying to watch the new, but the old Doctor is embedded in my mind, the new Dr is much cuter though, oh yes that does not count does it, love the poem sweet brother

-
This IMHO is a gold winner through and through. You captured everything about the 'Doctor'...the imagery is amazing. It is one of my all time favourite shows. You certainly did it justice. Bravo Bruv!

Thank you for this, it clears up so much.
I love the Dr. Who shows, guess, I am just, someone that does not belong here.

Dear Poet, the background made this extremely difficult to read in places, so I read it again, and again, honestly, what was clear was your enthusiasm but also in all honestly I feel you may have let that enthusiasm rest on a scene from Dr. Who instead creating your own unique one. I apologize in advance if you feel I am being harsh, but I feel we know each other well enough to know that we both would rather have honesty than pat a cake, praise me friend or it's the end, like the pigtail pulling kids in the playground, I know you can step this up another level of the stratosphere, I have read your work, listened to your audio, listened to your music, you have more strings to your bow than I do but for me this isn't your voice.
Hey, you aren't thinking of auditioning are you? Word is he is leaving, could be a good career move and you'd see the world and other worlds too lol

-
wow what a fabulous story here, the imagery is fantastic, I love your take on these videos.
really loved the ideas you knitted together for this piece.
well done and good luck!! xxx

-
A very good write and story poem. Suspenseful and poignant. You describe the war so vividly in this piece. Good imagery, flow and tone. Lovely expression of feeling of sadness and loss, everything he knew now gone. Very good closing verse. Well penned. Best wishes in the contest.

-
Wow excellent write hunni! Had me gripped all the way through. Some very powerful and emotional moments within the tale you've woven. I think given a chance to be in the Tardis, I'd want to go it alone to
Your knowledge of the show shines through, I know who to ask now when I get lost with something
Good luck in the contest, but looks golden to me

Can't say I've ever watched Dr Who, and can't take a sconce at those videos as I'm in work now but ...
"He truly was the destroyer of worlds…"
What an ending; you grow to know him so well throughout the story that you've weaved here [woven? woved? meh!] that by the time you reach teh end, you can wholly empathise with the poor doctor.
Some amazing descriptions here [and showing of knowledge!!]
Best wishes in the contest.
