The Sphinx Is Fasting

Eating dates and figs
off the calendars and from the trees.
Bowling judicial porcupines
at a drunken team of systematic armadillos
pardoning clowns under the Bozocratic Oath.
Ventriloquest dummies file an official complaint with god
  .. and the Carpenter's Union
while anarchist termites innocently plan their genocide
conspiring with Adolph's ghost.
Matty Mattel was a pervert and a war monger.

This is such an interesting poem and quite unlike many that I've read here on AP (and I've hosted about 72 contests already). You've really packed this one with symbols and symbolism. I especially liked the reference to God and the Carpenter's Union. Very nice satirical touch and voice here too. The linking of Mattel to war and the "war monger" allusion was done so well too.

I enjoyed this. Good stuff - thank you for this entry.

i used to bowl in porcupine tournaments, but lost my hand in an unfortunate locker dispute.

you can never be too careful, whether it's telling a dummy to say "ah", or lifting the skirt of an unwilling armadillo.

oh, and Matty was a personal friend, once upon a time.
but, sadly to say, i outgrew his plasticine smile and other whirlygigs

Wow this is is so boldly odd I can't help but really appreciate it. Full of symbols as markers for the Reader to uncover sort of like glyphs.

the Carpenter's Union -- fantastic linked there with god / and course I can't help but think of Jesus

and Matty Mattel?? I had to look it up and still not sure of the connection but that's okay --

    I sense the sinister

Yeah good stuff. I'm so glad I bumped into this.

    Good luck in the contest.

Matty Matel as in Matel Toy Co. it was a term Nam vets used in reference to the irony of their M-14s being manufactured by Matel Toys. Glad ya enjoyed Lisa, and thnx fer the comments.
