Seeking Love

There was nothing left,
for me to hold onto,
back from where I came from.
Just empty nights,
where the crickets stopped singing,
in the summer,
and the snow no longer,
seemed beautiful in the winter.

I don't know why I didn't,
think of it sooner,
since that's all I ever did,
think and just sit there,
watching the coals burn out.

But the day came,
when I knew enough was enough,
I've been numb to any emotion,
far too long,
it's time to walk away.

Didn't even leave a note,
on the rotting wood table,
for anyone who even,
bothered to care anymore.

Took almost nothing with me,
just my guitar,
an old photograph,
and my coat,
even though I knew,
I'm not coming back.

I pushed open the door,
took a step outside,
smiling,
knowing that I've taken my,
first step out on my way,
out of this God forsaken place.

Eventually finding my way,
to these railroad tracks,
just strumming out tunes,
on my beat up guitar,
and belting out broken dreams.

I don't even know,
how long I've been walking,
on these railroad tracks.
All I know is that,
I'm not going to stop,
until I find what,
I'm seeking.

Even though I'm not,
exactly sure what that,
thing I'm seeking,
is supposed to be,
or where to find out,
and how to get it.

I've heard people talk about it,
they call it love.

How beautiful! you write with such spirit and emotion, the idea of walking away with nothing but a few precious possessions and not looking back is so sorrowful yet so powerful an idea. your descriptions throughout are also excellent, I love the ending, it's brilliant! thanks so much for entering the contest, and best of luck in it!

    peace ♥

    Love is grand

It is not a search as much as it is a find. The harder you look, the harder it is to find love. Love usually finds you, not the other way around. If you just live life and keep your eyes open, love will find you. Love does not always come dresses in fancy clothes, sometimes it's covered in grease! Great write, The Shaker

'Tis a good story and one that is nicely told A few things that I noticed in this, though.... The addition of the comma at the end of each line gives the pause that doesn't belong at times, and halts the flow of this wonderful poem. Stanza three, the second to should be too. Stanza seven, eventually is misspelled.

The last two lines are gold.... and sums up the beginning, the leaving and the searching rather nicely. People will give it all up for that elusive love, and you captured that well.

Thank you for entering, and good luck in the contest
