only death can show you the tips of my burning fingers
as they snake between the fiery stars
but you think you will not die
your tongue speaks that you will
but your heart does not act like one
who has looked death in the eye without flinching
so you callously play with zombies
who truly have no regard for you
turning your back
I have waited for you
for the one who is not petty
the one who can face the unknown
committed to be more than a barnacle
that passed its share of plankton through
and expired without touching the universe
had hoped it was you
told you to grab hold of my waist
I will pull on the stars
we will be freed
it is not enough
as you have more pressing business
of actual importance
with those already dead and
you think I am foolish
pettiness, my dear,
is the sign of one who does not understand
that this is all for keeps
and every thought and deed matters
I smile at you because I know
if your destiny does not matter to you
it cannot matter to me
loving you from afar
just more bones in the pile
is all that is left
I shall have to drag myself from this tar pit
utterly alone
blowing kisses to the lost bones of know-it-alls
behind me
may they enjoy the warmth and comfort
of their mass grave
without
ME
Author notes
Actually, a barnacle has the largest penis relative to its size of any animal. Still wouldn't want to be one.

This is really an enjoyable read! I found it to be a slow read as each and every stanza carried with it, it’s own metaphor and instills reason for thought. This is amazingly intelligent and goes into far more depth than the average reader would expect. Bunnys all around!

Why do we trip up so much on the way to our destiny I wonder..
I'm not sure I'd have your patience... I hate waiting!
This is a fab poem.

You know she told me more about your soft skin than your bones
But I'll leave it up to her to fill you in
