"I'm over it."
Well, I'm not.
Life isn't fair, darling, no one plays by the rules anymore.
Put on your poker face,
chin up, and shoulders back,
if you can't be it, fucking fake it.
Stop bringing the world down,
just because you're stuck in quicksand doesn't mean
you can take the rest of them with you.
Hang the sign on our door that reads,
"Just Friends."
And continue pretending we were nothing more.
I'll continue pretending I'm "Just Fine,"
and everything will be jim dandy.
Like a picture perfect fairy tale,
without the cliched happy ending,
you recite aloud for all to hear without
even stumbling over the big words.
(This cheap rubber band is the only thing
keeping me alive, as it snaps loudly
against my wrist).
The bruising is satisfying and I watch
you cringe as you strain against the night air.
"If you're cold then take my jacket."
"I won't give it back."
"Well, you never gave me back so I suppose it doesn't matter."
And it wouldn't be the only thing you took without asking.

Wow.
This poem amazed me. It's emotional and true. I feel like you can read minds or something because this pertains to me in so many ways. My favorite lines were
"'If you're cold then take my jacket.'"
"'I won't give it back'"
"Well, you never gave me back so I suppose it doesn't matter.'"
"And it wouldn't be the only thing you took without asking."
I'm sorry you had to go through this, but it was an absolutely amazing read.

Thank you very much

Break ups suck, but there's really nothing you can do, right? I'm glad the poem reached you and I'm glad you enjoyed it
