Books

I curl up in a comfy nook
with some old, forgotten book

that takes me very far away --
where to, I cannot say.

To purple moors
and ocean shores;

to mountains high
beneath the sky;

to secret bogs
with mysterious fog;

to forest glens ...

and home again.

    Good Write

    This has a some what nursery rhyme feel to it, That is just my oppinion they are like you know and everyone has one. So I see with your poetry you like to do rhyme. Have you tried free verse at all. I think it would free your writting and allow you to explore more relms. Again this is just an oppinion you can take it or leave it, But yes you are a good writer. If you ever want to get a book published look at the site webook.com it is a community of writers you can collaborate with others or work on your own project and subit it for voting if your manuscript or project winds up in the top 10% you go to press. Keep writting

    This reminds me of the scene in "Jane Eyre" where she curls up in a window seat behind the curtains, to escape through reading...a very nice capture of the love most of us at this site have for books! (A friend was holding a garage sale for me, and wanted to sell about 200 of my paperbacks -- I said no!) I will look forward to your future writing.

    This is a really nice short poem that's something almost anyone can relate to. I really enjoy the spacing and its simplicity, but how the message still gets across. Thanks for posting this.

    Great,Great Write

    I love this I do alot of reading myself and I keep all my books some I re-read I just can't part with any of my books. You capture the feelings I get when I read fule for the imagination if you read fiction, but if you read a biography or non fiction you get food and thought for your mind. I think reading is a great form of entertainment some times the t.v. has to get turned off.

    Yes, I agree with second-born... YOU can TRAVEL FAR without even buying tickets for the trips. Just sit and relax...ENJOY reading books.

    I remember something I read... "When we are collecting books, we are collecting happiness."

    Great verse!

    Like this one alot!

    Very good! As a young lad fresh out on my own. I had a window seat on the sunny side of an abandoned mansion where I lived by the ocean. I read many books there while the ghost's danced in the dining hall. True story.

    I love this!

    Its simple eloquence. It reminded me of Shel Silverstein, a mini adventure all wrapped up in one sitting. Great job!

    I loved this poem!

    It made me smile. It is a happy poem. It is lyrical, and tells about the dream catchers we poets are.
    Lovely, thank you.

    Now:

    Either leave out all punctuation and capitalization, OR do it properly. You may decide. It is your poem. If you want to do punctuation and capitalization, here is an example:

    Books

    I curl up in a comfy nook
    with some old, forgotten book

    that takes me very far away --
    where to, I cannot say.

    To purple moors
    and ocean shores;

    to mountains high
    beneath the sky;

    to secret bogs
    with mysterious fog;

    to forest glens ...

    and home again.

    Love to you.

    Hi, I keep seeing your comments asking for advice on your poems so I thought I'd stop by and read some of them.
    I really like this poem. It reminds me of curling up in my Grandda's chair and getting lost in his stories. The rhyme and flow are good but not quite perfect. You have asked for advice and constructive criticism so I'm going to share my thoughts.

    In the second line of the first couplet there should be a comma between "old" and "forgotten" because they are both descriptive words. The addition of a comma also makes it read better when you say it out loud. For the same reason, I think you should add a comma after "where to". The comma makes you pause so that the lines match in time when you read them out loud.

    The rest of the poem is excellent. I particulary like the way it ends. Thank you for sharing this poem. It was really nice to read.

    This is nice, simple, old-fashioned poetry that is fading too fast in todays poetic world... I enjoy that completely well done... no critique...

    Nicely done. Great subject and well expressed You have done well with something I cannot seem to master. Short lines. If mine are short they tend to be at least 6 syllables.

    Great job.
