Revelation of Self Destruction

The darkness of the sun shall enshroud thee
The night's loving embrace shall comfort thee

Hateful words of adoration,
Loving words of malice.
Curséd blessings
And blesséd blasphemies!

The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down
in green pastures:
he leadeth me beside the still waters.

Blesséd be the coming of darkness
And curséd be the coming of the light!
Darkness is in my eyes,
The light is forever blocked out;
Shut out.

He restoreth my soul:
he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through
the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me;
thy rod and thy staff
they comfort me.

Agony shall be your friend
And comfort shall be your enemy
All the days of your life.

Thou preparest a table
before me in the presence
of mine enemies:
thou anointest my head with oil;
my cup runneth over.

Thy cup shall be empty,
Save for the few drops of blood
Which is collected from all that is spilt
In the never-ending wars of the world
For the sake of keeping the peace,
And this is done for your sake alone.
Now, take your bloodstained flag
And depart from our presence!

Surely goodness and mercy
shall follow me all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Goodness and mercy shall stray far from thee,
All the days of thy life...

    This is unique and different. Plenty of anger and a lost sense of feeling is felt here.
    A great write, with great imagry. Nicely done!

    You done an excellent job of blending this poem with the bible, I was actually having some problems figureing out which was which. It was a very unique idea

    (Sorry this is so long. Found it easier to repost your piece and comment as I went along. Very good piece.)

    The darkness of the sun shall enshroud theeThe night's loving embrace shall comfort thee(Here I got a sense of great disdain for light meaning possibly disdain for God’s light, that the Jesus the Lord is often depicted as the Light and the Way. Or, in classic terms, the conflict between good and evil, dark and light.)Hateful words of adoration,Loving words of malice.Curséd blessingsAnd blesséd blasphemies!(Definitely a repulsion toward love and God’s love; a drawing toward evil and hatred of God. Some awful person or being/people are being depicted, I feel.)The Lord is my shepherd;I shall not want.He maketh me to lie downin green pastures:he leadeth me beside the still waters.(I feel this part seems sardonic and sarcastic, as if almost mocking scripture. To sort of belittle the meaning of the comfort of the Lord’s protection and guidance and love. As I read on, I feel perhaps this is to enhance and highlight the contrast between good and evil, so to speak, and to also accentuate the hypocrisy, perhaps.)Blesséd be the coming of darknessAnd curséd be the coming of the light!Darkness is in my eyes,The light is forever blocked out;Shut out.(Again sounds demonic or of evil spirit. Those of “The Kingdom” cannot stand all that God stands for, and rebel and marinate in all that is opposite of God. “The light is forever blocked out; Shut out.” This gives me a sense of possession, as those of perfect possession feel when their will gives that final consent to the evil spirit to take full control. Very despairing words, very harrowing and affecting…complete and utter despair, a complete lack in all sense of hope; every fiber of the soul is steeped in darkness and the torment of it, it seems to me. “Shut out.” That part really chilled me.)He restoreth my soul:he leadeth me in the paths of righteousnessfor his name's sake. Yea, though I walk throughthe valley of the shadow of death,I will fear no evilor thou art with me;thy rod and thy staffthey comfort me.(Again, this seems very sardonic and mocking, definitely making a point.)Agony shall be your friendAnd comfort shall be your enemyAll the days of your life.(The hatred of the speaker here is quite obvious, and it is very chilling and blunt.)Thou preparest a tablebefore me in the presenceof mine enemies:thou anointest my head with oil;my cup runneth over.Thy cup shall be empty,Save for the few drops of bloodWhich is collected from all that is spiltIn the never-ending wars of the worldFor the sake of keeping the peace,And this is done for your sake alone.Now, take your bloodstained flagAnd depart from our presence!(“Thy cup shall be empty,/Save for the few drops of blood” Reminds me of Black Mass, here. Not overly relavent, but that definitely was the first thing that came to mind. Chilling words, “…drops of blood/Which is collected from all that is spilt/In the never-ending wars of the world/For the sake of keeping the peace,/And this is done for your sake alone.” I know that the whole stanza is supposed to flow together, but my mind then separates the last two lines. The last line especially gave me a sick feeling of repugnance. Somehow, the speaker of that line seems inhuman. It has a disturbing feeling attached to it, a lack of nobility, ironically, and more of a deviant sense to it…almost brainwashed or, again, demonic sounding.)Surely goodness and mercyshall follow me all the days of my life:and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.Goodness and mercy shall stray far from thee,All the days of thy life...(Here, the last two lines definitely feel riddled with pure hatred and agony. A sick feeling of pure misery and hatred…a hatred so strong, that there is not even a minute smidgeon of hope for even the faintest fragment of love or compassion. Definitely seems to say to me, many things. One idea I seem to get in a strong sense from it is hypocrisy in this country’s leaders; ones that claim to be religious, but are really the opposite, and seem more of those demonically possessed, doing evil things without conscience. However, the speaker of this poem, too, seems to be riddled with a strong hatred that makes the speaker almost seem inhuman, in a way, very mechanically hateful and despising to the point of a suspicious state, similar, too, of that of possession. Very classic indications of walking with the Devil in this poem. I find the most fascinating part to be that both, speaker, and those the speaker seems to be addressing/portraying, are influenced in a sort of demonic/possessed sort of way; hate on both sides, love lacking throughout, compassion, too, seems to not be present. Very interesting! Of course, that’s just my interpretation. The thickly hateful, sardonic air of the speaker is very biting and cutting. I found it nearly painful as I read this. Very interesting write. Definitely threw me into a stew of thought. Well done!)
