hulls of hazelnuts
on the march through the hedgerows
trails of children join
Author notes
the hulls of hazelnuts look like spikey little hedgehogs and children love to gather them in the late fall once they've dried and the nuts have burst, just like with chestnuts - another fall favorite.

A very well written piece and brought back memories of when we would go into the woods and gather an assortment of nuts late fall.
Thank you for your entry and good luck in the contest.

This is the sweetest Haiku I've read ever, and such an autumn mood in it as well.
I get stunned every time, how a little three lines poem can leave such an impackt.
Best of luck in the contest

Interesting how vivid haiku are when they contain lines about children...
There is my own autumn haiku:
village children
picking the low plums -
the high fruit rots
... and there is my favourite ever haiku by Issa:
snow melts
and the village floods
with children
... a wonderful early-spring verse.
I love this one of yours. It is very evocative.

Thetitle intrigued me.I justto read it. Could not relate "Hulls" at first but on reflection it is it is a verydiscerning description. Well done

I love this visual! We've used hazelnuts to make 'critters' for school projects. Children do love them!

Lovely imagery that sits easy on the senses.
