For the Life of Them

I never fully knew what a real Republican was-

some ideal lost and twisted by political plunder,

a great foundation laid then trampled upon

by us-and-them mudslingers shoveling each other under;

by partifying platformizing plagiarizing pretenders

stumping for personal riches, stumping for personal glory

for anything but the source of this country’s great history-

a beacon of freedom in the face of constant tyranny-

torn down and spit upon, from within…

Perhaps real Republicans are ever-changing,

perhaps they are conservatives estranged by the Party,

perhaps they are free thinkers, aligned with neither fat cat;

or perhaps they see too clearly Communism’s failures

and cannot, for the life of them, vote Liberal Democrat.
