Left In Breadcrumbs

Missing image
She writes my canyon, craving wing,

a sister,
sighing more than music,
where raven flies
away from death,

fusing life
to pick and choose,
what words to weave in windy secret.

I am humble man of frost-burnt sound,

my piles of leaves carpet earth
in breathless, drifting dream of light;

inside her shadow,

craving night,
to raise with compassion,

line and rhyme,
my lesser inhibitions, inspired as time,
to circled sunrise.

She saw in rock,
my petrified stare,

escape for bones dancing measure,
a caring quill to quiet conformation,

etching walls of ancient echo
we read, as wonder,

left in breadcrumbs.

    "etching walls of ancient echo"

I don't know how in the world I could have missed this one, of all the ones you've written. Not one for Carol, of all people. I guess it was about the time I started getting ill & wasn't around much. Well, we both know she deserves every word, every homage. So do you, Rich. Beautiful, tender kinship painted on this parchment, Sweetie. How you honor us all. Congratulations on your silver...but most of all, for knowing such a magnificent soul such as she is.

Beautiful, Kaibab, and very fitting. Carol is the other host on this list that I would love to honor as she has inspired so many of my pieces as well as contributed some of the most beloved of winning poems to my own contests. I reminisce in this moment how it was in one of Carol's contests about birds that you and I first met over two years ago and talked about Robert Frost and hawks. Wonderful poem to a wonderful inspiration. I am sure she will be more than pleased.
