As far back as I can recall,
I have always been left astray.
My childhood spent waiting for Dad,
the military sent him far away.
But I don’t mind, waiting on a man.
Teen years there were the boyfriends,
and I waited for them as well.
Some had jobs and others sports,
waiting is waiting, no need to dwell.
But I don’t mind, waiting on a man.
Marriage soon followed,
and waiting became a joy.
For this time I was waiting
for my two beautiful boys.
But I don’t mind, waiting on a man.
Happiness turned to regret,
as the marriage quietly ended.
Soon my waiting began once more,
the time of cub scouts and little league descended.
But I don’t mind, waiting on a man.
Love again came to me,
and again I was left waiting.
Soon it was clear one had to leave,
his attention and affections were fading.
But I don’t mind, waiting on a man.
Unexpectedly my heart was saved
by someone dear and special I had met,
Hour after hour I sat and waited,
Our special love I’ll not forget.
But I don’t mind, waiting on a man.
