Prey

Echoes of screams
Hang like cobwebs from the ceiling
Heavy with dark desires
The air wafts scents of smoldering decay through the night
As I led her down the ancient staircase
Into that chamber draped in shadows
Pervaded by horror unseen
Her terrified eyes pleading, begging for my mercy
“ No master, no I am loyal to you, please master no!”
Her form so fragile, her eyes black with fear
Intoxicating me, as my heart craves her terror, drinking
Ah yes, to drink from that tender neck
No longer a predator of rats and other filthy vermin of the deep
But a human, a human victim, alive

Of flesh and blood
Ah yes the blood, its flavor so rich and sweet
Glittering like rubies in the moonlight
My eyes gleaming hungry as I approach her and wrap her in my cold embrace
The hood of my cloak thrown back revealing my face
My gaunt emaciated form towering above her
Red eyes, gleaming in the darkness
As I take her by the throat, burying my fangs in her neck
allowing myself to sink deeper and deeper into that crimson core
Draining the very life from the beautiful rose
Listing for her heart, hearing it slow down and stop as her warm blood pours into my mouth
And down through my throat, filling every fiber of my being with an insatiable thirst for more
More, I want more! I want her life!
As her body drops to the floor, I tear open her white dress.
I take her in my arms again and hearing her ribs break and shatter in my embrace
I claw my way into her heart severing the arteries as I dig my way in
And finally clutching her heart in my fist, still warm and soaked in her blood I lift it to my face While letting my tongue dance across its smooth surface, so vital, so fresh, before devouring it
I shall live again!

This is very good. The best descriptive poem of a vampire i've ever read.

I'm not actually a lover of horror, but this is really very well written, with lots of atmosphere too. Thank god I've had garlic bread for dinner! Good luck in the contest. sj
