Orange leered from orbs of bright tang.
Yellow shot shafts of sunbeam, so acrid.
Green gave all its gall, guile, and bile.
Blue brazenly banished all from the Spectrum of Visible Light.
Violet's vanguard of vehement violets veered towards violence.
This is the Spectrum of Visible Light - the reigning elite.
Ultraviolet is too snobbish and noxious.
X-ray sees through all, and thus chooses not to participate.
Gamma-ray is too energetic, and has long ago run off elsewhere.
Long-wave is too lethargic to lift a finger for anything.
Radio'd rather radiate data, and
Infra-red supports Red from behind the scenes.
Oh why so factious, you of the Spectrum of Visible Light?
One day on that tie-dyed battlefield where clashing colours fly,
darkness will descend, and clashing colours will fly from sauntering shadows.
I too dreamt a dream:
all the colours came together and wheeled together
in harmony; love gave birth to secondaries; the United Council of Wavelengths
banished back the darkness; and the invisible ones became visible.
All together, we can paint a rainbow
with all the colours of the spectrum.
So let's wave farewell to discord, because
really, we're all just unique lengths of
waves.
Author notes
If you're wondering why indigo isn't in here, it's because color scientists no longer consider it a distinct entity on the optical spectrum.
I did have indigo in a former edit. Check the poem history if you want.

this took awhile to write... not like what usually happens...
it was a difficult prompt for me =P
for a bit of twss humour, add these lines in at the end:
"
Green, we know why you are the way you are,
but the truth is:
some are longer and some are shorter, but
that's not what really matters ^.~
"
I think there's this random part of quantum theory that defines all mass as waves...
maybe wavelengths of little vibrating strings of energy?
(string theory ^)

I entered this into a prompt contest earlier, and that was my prompt.

I would love to win a trophy, but I notice I'm not in the finalists?
It's okay if you just found someone better. If that's the case, please just ignore me.
But if I somehow got left off, please add me back on >.<
