Enveloped in serenity, children play in peace,
A revering family moment, will these feelings ever cease?
Locked high upon a mountain, secrets kept to perfection,
From evil and intriguing eyes, it offers beautiful protection.
We don’t seek any outsiders, to invite them here to stare,
We have no interest in the humans, so why then should you care?
We have no way to trust you, intention friend or stranger,
We blame you wholeheartedly - you’re the reason of our endanger.
Place yourself in our shoes, how would you really react?
If you came across your loved ones, shot, beaten and hacked?
Overcome with rage, lash out, an uncontrollable ordeal,
Beastly reputation is unjustified, as a species we are genteel.
What is that you want, our feet and fur and hands?
I need them more than you do, why is there such demand?
You keep on coming and one day, before you realize,
We’ll be no more, and all you can do, about us is fantasize.
What was that? Trees are rustling,
Unfamiliar smells,
Men with knives, Guns are hoisted,
Here to release hell!
Consumed by panic, Guard the family,
Make sure they’re secure,
Stand up tall, Beat my chest
Future conjecture,
Searing Pain, Can’t back down,
My blood is what I reek,
Overpowered, And outnumbered,
Body getting weak…
Someone help, submit the fight,
Last time to close eye-lids,
Final thought, will someone help,
To find safety for my kids…
…Newsflash…
A fresh find was made today, 3 youngsters and 1 adult.
World population of mountain gorillas is under 600 as a result.
They need protection, stop the poachers, the point is very succinct.
Or it won’t be long until they disappear, another species gone extinct.
…End Newsflash…

Well said my friend!
I have nothing else to say this was really well written.
You spoke genuinely for this majestic beast.
I adore Gorilla's, they are the second relation to us humans after the Chimps and yet we are killing them, their like family, the 21st century's cavemen.
The arrogance and ruthlessness of mankind never ceases to amaze me.
When will we learn.
Thankyou for sharing this, it was a pleasure to read except I'm terrible at reading red writing, it hurts my eyes and gives me headaches
but it's okay, your write was worth the eye strain.
Goodluck to you always, I'm glad someone out their care's for the Gorillas our relatives, as much as what I do.
For the Animals always.
Love and light. -
Very Impactful!
The play on words for your title is ingenious, "Gorillas in the Myth" for "Mist", from the book/movie "Gorillas in the Mist."
A myth is what the Mountain Gorillas will be soon, if something is not done to protect them more. It is so scary that there are under 600 of these gentle, social giants left in their natural habitat. It is a struggle to keep poachers away from them; and also corruption from within the circle of protection is an impending danger also. God help them! It breaks my heart.
Your poem is beautiful and so fully expresses the soul of the wonderful Mountain Gorillas! Thank you for showing us what it is like seeing the world through their eyes. I am moved by your words and anyone else who reads them will be also.
When I saw that video of the Mountain Gorilla massacre I cried. It is beyond belief to me; so shocking that this could happen. I felt more sad and helpless than I did when I first saw "King Kong" when I was five years old, and he died.

(warning: The beginning of this documentary is pleasant and informational, but I do not recommend watching the last half of it for really sensitive viewers, as it is showing aspects of the recent mountain gorilla massacre).
I also pray that Diane Fossey's life-long work and death for the Mountain Gorillas was not in vain;

The "Newsflash" was a nice added dramatic touch.
Thank you for your wonderful poem and for entering my contest!
