Silent Soliloquy

The heat is insufferable
As the charcoaled bodies
Outlined the sidewalks
Walking disease ridden streets
Profiled
With skeletons of buildings
And the memories of life
It hasn’t rained for ages
But still the streets flood
With acrid tears of the mourners
And corpses pile higher
Erecting monuments of charred flesh
To desolation and fear
That have all but besieged
This cold, dark world
Stumbling wearily
Across crumpled gravel
And splintered bone
Murals of blood and fire
Decorate another gutted, raped city
As the shadowy, apathetic claws
Belonging to the most sinister
Slowly rake across the ulcerous lands
Compelling its saturated flesh
To lacerate and bleed
Decimating all who still walk its soils
The dying sun races for western front
Fleeing from the encroaching beast
Of nightfall
In the failing light of the sunset
I spy an open window
Wherein crouches a petite ghost of a girl
Translucent skin, shadowy fear riddled eyes
Dark tousled hair entwining her
Quivering gaunt frame
Clutching the shredded, white laced drapes
As though it held the last strands
Of here innocent soul
Her presence induces a weak, wry smile
Promising phantasmal securities
I cannot keep
But the whispers of wind
Carry a faint sigh of hope
That is almost inaudible
To resounding howls on the heels
Of daylight
I stand entranced
Listening to her silent, eerie
Soliloquy
Until the darkness consumes us
And I see her no more…

Gripping piece! The imagery is so vivid and deeply dark, love it! Has a chilling air to it, some wicked phrases you've used. 'Slowly rake across the ulcerous lands' Simply a stunning line! Excellent read

    Hope your well hunni
