I remember when
my mom would sit and tell
me stories
of when she was a child
and took classes in a one room
school house.
She would often tell
of how her and her sisters
would walk to school
during the winter
and summer days.
And how,
since grandma worked
and she, being the youngest
at the time,
was sent to school right along
with the rest of them
even tho
she was only 2 or 3 at the time.
Mom said that was a way
of having a babysitter
while grandma was away at work.
Mom said it was difficult learning
there because you couldn't really focus
on your work.
You heard all the grades
not just yours.
So when the time came
she left that one room school
house and went to work in a factory
she never looked back.

I read this blind - I mean not looking at the picture prompt - and for me your straight-down-the-line narrative painted a scene of the Southern USA, dustier than the picture suggests. You didn't do anything fancy, just told-it-like-it-was... and that's good... that worked!

i like poems like this when they are not really descriptive, but still seem to say a lot

Has a nostalgic feel to it. Nicely composed. Thank you for entering. I see an old school house as well.

This is a really interesting take on the picture. Interesting that she left school to work in a factory and obviously was successful. I think it's wonderful, but unusual.
Thank you for sharing this and all the best in the contest
