I lost my hold, then
in the sight of you and the openings
of those bright, brilliant blue eyes
that I thought could love me
yet could barely meet with mine
So I fall for the hundred thousandth time
unsure of how to make sense of the things
that don't make sense on their own
because I thought I'd figured this out
until you walked on and wouldn't look back
And I lost my hold, then
as I drove through the night
two thousand miles from you, among the mountains
fighting the empty spaces between the stars
because when you hold to something too tightly
it swallows half your heart
So I fall prey to the broken parts
that make up almost all of me
and were held, by little bits
along your brilliant string
Author notes
If the Lord doesn't move soon, I fear we will fall apart for the final time...
