Rewind

I watch the news nearly everyday,
but it seems it’s nothing but a damn replay.
Fire, pestilence, disease and war,
floods and famine, the cries of the poor.

The scenes they swirl about in my head,
Hurricane Ike pushing up the dead;
Typhoons, Tsunamis, treacherous waves,
to outrageous gas prices we are now slaves

Bombs and destruction, religious strife,
murder and mayhem, ohhhh what a life.
They sprinkle the bad with a little good news,
the Olympics and Idol, to chase away the blues.

But even those come with a very high price,
steroids, collusion, human hemoglobin mice.
Everyone cheating, looking for an edge,
out of the mainstream, standing on a ledge.

The lives of the famous and disgustingly rich,
Brittany’s derriere and Paris’s latest itch.
Moving onto politics, now there's another world,
lies and massive greed, unleashed and unfurled.

Obama and McCain, Palin, and who?
What’s a homophobic white girl really gonna do?
Each making racial slurs, denying their own,
at least now they’ve left poor old Hilary alone.

Time was when it was just good old boy Bill,
getting a bit on the side, before he was over the hill.
Now poor Georgie will finally be left out in the cold,
what legacy will he leave to be widely retold.

Will the body bags from Iraq be counted as a misdeed?
Or will they gloss over the facts to try and mislead?
Will they say that oil, was never the root nor the cause?
And is America really, the Land of Oz?

The news is droning once again in my ear,
seems Mugabe is delivering, nothing but fear.
Leading the voters not with truth, but with a gun,
yes the illusion of freedom is not very much fun.

But hey across the world in many civilized places,
children are sewing jeans, no hope on their faces.
And Paris and Brittany are both dressed to the nine,
all that ever changes is the location and time.

White slavery, black markets, cruelty and prostitution
Our everyday life is nothing but an institution.
Where we are bombarded with the ugliest of visuals,
leaving us nothing but emotionally crippled individuals.

    Telling it like it is

You've created a wonderful little montage of contemporary world news. So relevant to today that in the future you can look back to these words as a reference to how life was back in the days of 2008.

Funnily enough my daughter said to me yesterday while we were watching TV 'When are they going to show the good news?' Unfortunately I had to tell her 'There isn't any'

Absolutely love your writing will be back to read some more!

Wow! This is very good. I think exactly the same way about the news.
The rhyming is superb, the flow is great and you touch on so many subjects, which is a plus.

    Excellent job and good luck!
