Mother Polar Bear

With saddened heart
I sit by my child
Watching him play
Oblivion to the world

Living under line of poverty
Facing food scarcity
At every step there is a fight
Can’t let the little one out of my sight

Under surveillance of storms
In the midst of death winds
Outdoors decay at the brim
Cries of help from barren lands
Bounce back unheard

Purity of snowcapped mountains
Melting away into liquid ice
Once an Iceland it was known
My family’s home sweet home
Now is a strange stranded terrain

Home to millions
Ocean’s unable to live up to its name
Fishes dying
Painful loss of vegetation
Lives wasted
Mother Nature’s chained
To humankind

I wonder dipping into the waters
Will I see my little one again?
A million dollar question
Answer I don’t have but I seek
Hoping for the good days to return
When I could go hunting in peace
Knowing have enough to feed
All my friends and family members

Times of struggle
Sitting on ticking bomb
Trying our survival skills
We don’t want to fight
Yet we now live in the war zone
For the scraps of food left
In the depths of the ocean

Innocence dies with every breath
Childhood never lives to play
Empty stomach of mine
I still try my best to produce milk
For my baby to drink

Strength is leaving my body
Courage is flickering candle
Mother’s nightmare is getting bigger
With every second that passes by

Skills of survival I teach
Courage to my kid I preach
Faith I hold on to tight
Hope is a wobbling fight
Win or loose, are not just words
But the fact of life

I see everyday
I live everyday
I breathe everyday

Before I take your leave
All I want to say
Is thanks to humankind
For global warming
The perfect gift of death
You’ve given to my kid

Take one look into the mirror
And… watch the movie play
Of Mother Polar Bear and her baby

…may you not ever see the day
When you let go your baby
Into the hands of slow death
And nothing you can do to stop it
This is a wish from me—
A mother polar bear to you

Before the night falls
Before it’s too late
Don’t let a mother’s plight
Fall on deafened ears

…Let my kids live to the fullest…

Author notes

There are many endangered species, thanks to us our future generations would read the history of bloody humankind and how we wiped out other living beings with our own selfish unconcerned actions...
Actions speak louder than words - global warming is not a joke, but a bitter reality that is affecting not only us, the ones who have created this mess, but the innocent ones who can't speak for themselves in the worst possible manner.

We have left humanity in the pits, but still we are humans, we need to prove and take a baby step back to reviving Mother Nature and her children, before its far too late. Join ASPCA and donate ( https://secure2.convio.net/aspca/site/Donation2?df_id=1020&1020.donation=form1&s_src=sitewide&s_subsrc=rightside&JServSessionIdr012=caok6ichi2.app26b ) or adopt a wild endangered animal at WWF ( http://www.worldwildlife.org/home.html )

But money is not everything, but compassion and time are just as valuable for their survival.

    Bravo!

Ask any school child if they have the right to kill flies or insects. They always say yes of course because the insect or fly is bothering them and they have a right to kill. The same with the polar bear. We think we are god's over every creature and their destinies. We think that we can control not only every species on our planet but we have the right to do so. The reason? Because we can!
    Bravo!

An Arctic Tale that's what it's called, the movie, I thought I'd say it before I forget again.
You should see it if you haven't already, it's a truly touching movie.

First of all, I have this to say...Awwwwwwwwwww that is such a cute picture!
Ok glad I got that off my chest.
As for your poem it was sweet and enriched with a wonderful story based on the fierce and compassionate Polar Bear.
When it comes to their cubs, the Polar Bear is one of the best Animal mum's, protective and loyal to them, no matter the hardships.
I truly enjoyed reading this it had a strong impact on the heart and kinda brought a tear to my eye, we are so selfish and ignorant, I'm ashamed that we call ourselves "human."
Also, this write reminds me of a child's Polar Bear movie/documentry I watched, I just can't think of what it's called.
Oh well, I'll let you know if it comes to me, it's worth watching.
That's going to drive me crazy now because I can't remember it.
Anyway thankyou very much for sharing your write with us, best of luck to you.
    For the animals always.
    Love and light.

    Thank you for this wonderful write;

Speaking for the Polar Bears; and with such empathy and exquisite sensitivity through the eyes of a mother Polar Bear. Who could feel the threat of extinction more directly than a Mother struggling with all her strength and might to see her progeny survive?

You write is eloquent and breathtaking; with amazing feeling and imagery. The photo is incredible!

    "Mother Nature’s chained
    To humankind"

This phrase really caught my eye; but most of your poem hit home with me - The fate of Mother Nature's creatures is certainly chained to mankind.

So many animals have met their demise because of humanity's ruthless, unthinking and relentless destruction and hunting. It happens over and over. Generations before us may not have known the consequences of their actions; but what is our excuse; WHAT IS OUR EXCUSE?! There is no excuse!

The truth is humanity knows the implications and consequences of actions that we will be held accountable for one day. If we continue to destroy the delicate ecosystem that we live in; the oceans, the artic, the forests, the animals, etc. the consequence is that we will ruin our own chance for survival on this planet. The more havoc we cause to this earth the closer we bring ourselves to our own demise. WE LIVE IN A FRAGILE ECOSYSTEM.

That will be our legacy. Then Mother Nature will start over if the planet is not too ruined for new life to begin over again. Hopefully, things will go better next time around.

    This was sad;

"I wonder dipping into the waters
Will I see my little one again?
    A million dollar question
    Answer I don’t have but I seek
Hoping for the good days to return
When I could go hunting in peace
    Knowing have enough to feed
All my friends and family members"

    and
…may you not ever see the day
When you let go your baby
Into the hands of slow death
And nothing you can do to stop it
This is a wish from me—
A mother polar bear to you

    "Before the night falls
    Before it’s too late
    Don’t let a mother’s plight
    Fall on deafened ears

…Let my kids live to the fullest…'

    Astonishing and heartwrenching plea!

I had a dream just recently that a Polar Bear was living with me and my extended family. S/he (not sure of the sex), was closer to me than they were; just living in the house with me like normal. Interesting.
I often have dreams of endangered animals like that; and I feel a closeness to them. I don't know why I dream like that - but it always moves me deeply...
