Internal Dialogue

you can't write at all--

Who Says?

me.

Who Are You?

you.

What On Earth Are You Talking About?

you write meaningless drivel
to satisfy your emotional urges.
no poet at all, say i.

And Since When Did You Become A
Professional Poetry Critic?

tut-tut. i'm you, remember? if you know it, so do i.

But If All I Write Is Bad Poetry--

it takes one to know one.
if all you know is bad poetry,
it is all i can recognize.

I Win Contests--

since when? what, the last trophy you won
must have made you feel so great.
how long ago was that?

I Can Write. Your Opinions Mean Nothing.

POETRY is nothing without the meaning of others.

Very Well, What Shall I Write?

--you just did.

Author notes

Note: the lines WITHOUT any capital letters are the poet's subconscious. Ones with the first letter all capitalized are the poet. The subconscious speaks first.

What does this poem mean? Poetry is nothing without someone to read it and to relate to it. That is the whole point of poetry--release and understanding. Without baring one's soul to the world, how can you expect your poetry to touch others' hearts?
