cry to live

ashamed to live alone and free
forlorn thoughts meander without guidance
tigers dwell in isolated spaces
declining to give, I claw to survive

knowing eyes ask our quick forgiveness
provide the life of ample tomorrows
never hunt except to live
cry alone with a sudden roar
angry that man has forgotten my plight

when all are gone, we'll know regret
extinction becomes all the more prevalent
hide alone like a familiar tabby
seek your destiny without lust

mythology gives me a glint of immortality

I am the solitary, endangered tiger

A heartfelt plea here. I love how you show both the strength and the vulnerability of these magnificent creatures. You have used similar duality throughout and quite advantageously. Really nicely done!

Oh! I really like this one.
We are not dissimilar from tigers. We too are predators lurking in life’s undergrowth waiting to pounce and often we hunt alone. I particularly like the first stanza...

“ashamed to live alone and free
    forlorn thoughts meander without guidance
    tigers dwell in isolated spaces
declining to give, I claw to survive”

This is a good lead in to the poem.

Thanks for drawing attention to the tigers plight.

    Love, Peter

Yes, they are "loved" so much they become clothing for a rich persons back, stuffed, or killed for the sake of it.
It's sad that such a terrible and heartless act is bestowed on such a beautiful creature.
Their numbers are declining by the hundreds, unfortunately there isn't even nine thousand left in the wild.
Your poem was a pleasure to read heartfelt and true.
I loved the description you used to tell the Tiger's story, thankyou for being a voice for them.
Goodluck and best wishes to you in this contest and thankyou for sharing.
    For the animals always,
    Love and light.

    roar!!!

i especially delight in the line "hide alone like a familiar tabby" - when imagining a tiger within that line, its gorgeous.

    Very Powerful!

"when all are gone, we'll know regret
extinction becomes all the more prevalent"

And that regret will come when it is too late. Thank you for seeing through the eyes of the magnificent tiger!

    I also loved this;

"mythology gives me a glint of immortality

I am the solitary, endangered tiger"

Woe is be if the tiger becomes a legendary myth of the past. You are right; three species of tiger have become extinct within not only the last century but WITHIN THE LAST 50/60 YEARS! That is scary and should be telling everyone that something had better be done about it before it is too late!

    Great poem!
