I am very in tune with my animals,
they brighten my every day.
And through their eyes they speak to me,
in such a gentle way .
I have had my dog for 13 years,
raised her as a pup she is so dear.
Now today she has begun to say goodbye,
I can see it in her eyes.
Every evening she wants to be held so close,
I help her up into my lap for I truly know .
In her way she is telling me goodbye,
I can see it through her eyes.
Just as people they communicate indeed,
but it takes them who loves them to truly see.
For all animals harmed and slaughtered today,
they also have this look so displayed.
How can people be so cruel,
for the animals of this world today.
They live amongst us but helpless with such a wicked duel,
for amongst us their are those who cares not I say.
Some are evil to the core,
hunting the animals about our shores.
Brag and boast with their trophies on the walls,
blind to their eyes as God watches the destruction after all.
I cry for the animals for I so feel their heart beats,
today they are so hunted by man.
Not for food or for love but a trophy,
without our help alone they stand.
they brighten my every day.

Not for food or for love but a trophy,
without our help alone they stand.

Thanks for sharing this grandma. I feel the same way. My old girl dusty is just turning twelve this year and she has arthritis. she get's to come inside during winter and she likes that. But I too begin to feel time beging to shorten. Sometimes I think it's so cruel that they have the bigger hearts and the shorter life span than us.

Your words are powerful and true until end.
We don't realise how precious something is until we lose it, whether it'd be family, friends and in this case animals.
Bringing pain to an animal is no different then bringing pain or hurt to a loved one, wild animals are no different from the family pet.
Why can't they be shown the same compassion as they would their own cat or dog?
Yes alone they continue to stand but with people like us they might just stand a chance, there's no giving up now, they need us.
Thankyou very much for sharing this, you show a lot of compassion in this write and it's what these animals need, a voice.
Goodluck in the conted.
For the animals always, -
Great poem, it holds to the realization that man is selfish. In the garden man was given dominion over them. After the fall they were given to eat also, but they were never intended to be killed for pleasure, only what was needed for food or clothing. Man is ruining the earth God gave us!

"it takes them who loves them to truly see"
This says it all. If only they would open their hearts and their eyes, then they would truly see;
"Just as people they communicate indeed,
but it takes them who loves them to truly see.
For all animals harmed and slaughtered today,
they also have this look so displayed. "
Beautifully put and truth indeed! Thank you for your lovely, yet sad entry!

My Dear Friend,
This is powerful piece! My husband is a hunter, but he only hunts what we will eat. So for that I am grateful. In fact there has been times I am grateful that he does hunt, or we would not have had food to eat. But for those that hunt just for the sport, I think they are cruel and uncaring. I can not see what the point is to hunt for the sport.
We just lost our cat, I think he took to the woods and died by himself, not sure, we have not been able to find him
I sure do miss him. He was such a friend, and wonderful cat.
Best of luck in this contest!
and love
Nyetta

such strong emotion, and so beautifully written your poems never fail to amaze me, and to touch my heart.

Brought tears to my eyes because my own pets mean so much to me; and having lost my soul-pet, I don't know if I could ever love another animal as much as I did her. If you see the poem "Requiem", that is written for her; indeed, I have an entire book of poetry for her, though most is not published on here - hurts me too much to read back over it.
But however, couldn't agree with you more. They are so much MORE than 'creatures to be hunted, killed for meat, for horns, for fun,' etc. Heartbreaking.
