Somewhere along the way,
what did I become to you?
The words we write upon
the pages of our minds-
words of utmost absolution.
Somewhere along the way,
I got left behind.
Choking on dust from friends,
and gasping for a fresh start.
Somewhere along the way,
I became someone different.
Opposite from what everyone wanted.
Wasn't it, dearest?
It was what I wanted to be though.
Somewhere along the way,
minds changed and no one told me.
Suddenly it was cool to be like that.
It was awesome to be what you
could never really aspire to be.
Somewhere along the way,
drugs became the shit and
Being the shit became a good thing!
To quote a button, fuck the what?
Somewhere along the way,
we were supposed to become a fake.
Girls are lying little whores,
who lie on their backs for more than sleep.
Guys became posers and liars.
"You can't be a virgin!
You're dating someone
You must have gone all the way by now!"
Somewhere along the way,
two weeks became a long time.
Relationships crumbled in class periods.
No one lasts more than a month or two.
Somewhere along the way,
gay still stayed wrong but lesbian was fine.
Just let that star footballer join in.
Fuck your teacher for your grade,
that's okay now too.
Didn't you know that, Love.
Just don't get caught.
Somewhere along the way,
all reason crawled away.
Actually, I think someone shot it-
buried it six feet under.
It's never coming back.
Someone along the way,
we lost it all.
Author notes
Definitely not my best, I'm not really interesting in edits on this one though. I was mostly just trying to get out my frustrations. Sorry this wasn't that good. Oh well, I hope you enjoy the concept nonetheless.

I'm so glad my random clicking brought me here. I think this is a marvelous piece of work, wrought with that special touch of 'personal' that brings everything to the fore. I enjoyed this read. Thanks for sharing it!

Wow! Great poem, it's so powerful and so relatable. I love everything about the poem. I don't know what else to say except great! I love the second last stanza, it's so edgy... "Somewhere along the way..."
(Btw you commented on one of my poems and I didnt respond in like 5 months. Very sorry bout that, my computer broke down. But thanks so much!)

I LOVE this poem. Its all to true and in my school its like double. Everyone needs to wake up and realize what is happening to our generation!
Anyways, I love the lines:
"Somewhere along the way,
all reason crawled away.
Actually, I think someone shot it-
buried it six feet under.
It's never coming back."
The lines made me laugh, but I still knew it was true.
again, I loved this poem. Keep up the awesom writing!

Mostly I was just talking about how everything has changed so much from what it used to be.
