Independance.

I travel, I fly, I leave the grounds I once was rooted so forcefully too, so into the garden that I never knew the exhilirating breath of air that crashes into every hair, limb, skin, frame and mind.
I took the time to understand why the surface is gold and the depths are untouched by the sun's attempts to brighten the world. Half sorry for my treachery and half waiting with the greatest impatience for my lashes and my exile-one push off the rock, one chance to spread my wings, my chance to breathe.
Is my path blocked, or is this my path? With it's endless trees with their jealous wrath, whipping me in the back, calling me to the front and to the center so they can dictate my winter, summer, spring and fall, my years of growing that they watched in awe.

I can't apologize anymore for not doing what I'm told-invisible messages I choose to ignore, the catcalling stands I face and implore, "Why are you so afraid, that I'll outgrow this life someday? Do you think that I will spread disease, that I'll convince a revolution against every physical solution you shove down the wallets of the young and insane, this is me, and this is my name. I am INDEPENDANCE."

Thank you for sharing the strength of your character in this narrative poem. Unfortunately the competition in this contest was very strong.

"[T]his is me, and this is my name. I am INDEPENDANCE.' " <<---powerful. Simple, but powerful. I really liked this! It's a different format than any of the other poems in the contest I've read so far, but I think I like it.

Good luck in the contest, and thanx 4 entering!
