Hammer & chisel

Every time you carefully aim the chisel
targeting it with the point where
the part of the block that must be removed
to show the beauty that lies hidden
deep inside
and strike with the hammer
there is a risk

that the crack formed along the stone
along the pattern of the rocks strength
how it has melted and been filed down over time
what border areas have been created?
How does it affect your utopia?

and you have a song on your lips and you sing:

All we have
is a hammer and a chisel
all we get
is a hammer and a chisel
in a cold world of stone

There is no El Dorado to come to
no Atlantis to find
at the sea floor of sävaråmynningen

no stage in life
you need to get to
no utopia to find
somewhere in South America or Africa

no true You to find in India

there is no oasis under the asphalt
nobody will take me away
on a revolutionary tandem bicycle
for we would have nowhere to go

it will never be all right
everything will never be okay
no one will start the social revolution
and if the revolution comes
it will not be particularly social

All we have
is a hammer and a chisel
all we get
is a hammer and a chisel
in a cold world of stone

I did not die in your arms
on the barricades in the summer of 2006
as we always said I would
we will not reach to the sky
before we die

there is no larger context
than this

there is no larger context
to take into account

there is no larger context
to blame

there is just us and you and I
and what we do with, against and with each other

All we have
is a hammer and a chisel
all we get
is a hammer and a chisel
in a cold world of stone

All we can do is chop at the walls
shaping it's own utopia
sculpture art in the walls
and their own rooms and windows

Everything starts here
the only thing we can be sure of changing is ourselves
and there is no longer any excuse not to

Author notes

this is an old rant, just translated from swedish. but now that i translated it, it has a strange feeling about it. i made a song out of the refrain, and it's meant to be sung.

I want to hear it sung...
I believe it would be more powerful that way.
    Hmm... things to ponder.
    I love it.
    Paints a great picture.

    Thank you for your entry.
