Salve seeps deep
into cuts formed from
too many abrasive, uphill climbs...
times different from the world
we all came from.
Numb-ness, a welcome repast;
but even the strongest Novocaine
doesn't last
but for an instant.
fingers start to fail
to keep that slim grip
one has on hope...
edges rip at tired flesh
and nerves send such
signals of pain,
that the strain
starts to over-ride reason
and purpose
and conscience
till northing's left
but empty shells
and determination.
And then...
that voice...
not the still small voice
although motivation
is clearly birthed from it...
but...
that voice of encouragement
that says,
"you can, you know.
Just one more effort.
I believe in you."
and though so
many other voices could have said this
the origin gives it
so much more power.
Truth resides there.
Compassion resides there.
And with just this little catalyst
a kingdom of strength is formed
born
part from determination
but mostly from the encouragement
birthed from that
wonderful, wonderful, voice
that says,
yes... you can!
