A poet strains his heart and soul
To show by the words he writes
His pain, his anguish, his heartbreak,
And some wonderful delights.
Travels are coloured with glowing words
Emotion exposed and laid bare,
Should we,the readers, study these works
Analyse what meanings are there?
Our world is torn by conflict and strife
We know that improvement is slow
I'd like to read much happier works,
Please tell me, where can I go?
Where is the writing, purely for joy
As if telling a tale to one's friends?
Where are the feelings of happiness,
Or must all of us readers pretend?

Ah, the paradox of poetry, as writer and reader. Well written and thoughtful, a longing for 'tall tales and true' and the voices of friends around a campfire at night.

many thanks for your thoughts on this one , Mercedes. I have spent many a night around a campfire listening to yarns being told. Would that my memory was good enough to remember them so they could be written out for those less fortunate.

Yep, sums it up perfectly!

Thank you, my friend. Life is just a bowl of cherries, you win a few but lose a lot. However, the cherries still taste the same.

A great write that covered a lot of things. It is hard at times to write purely fun stuff, when ones lives are filled with turmoil. Sometimes, it takes a spark to set this off and wow, there is a funny piece. Some others have the knack for it. I like to go between the two to see the other side, although i love fun poems. This was so good a write. (better than my English). You tend to be able to get your poems to flow so well, and that in itself draws your reader even closer. A treasure once again. sorry, nothing to change as far as i am concerned.

Once again I am indebted to you for your kind and generous comments. Thank you. I wrote this one after a spell of poems of gloom doom and despair on both AP & GW. I thought I would be different and maybe someone else would follow. Thanks to you I know where to look now for some genuine humour.

Another truthful tale mate.... seems pain is a much easier thing to write about (especially on AP
), and yes, Im guilty myself...
Loving the rhythm and tempo to this piece

yes Rob, I too am guilty. Maybe we all get some relief from the pain by writing about it. I am pleased to say i have found a few happy go lucky poems since I posted this one. I appreciate your comment, mate.

Well written my friend. You are probably right in that there is too much darkness in our (my!) writing and we need to lighten things up a bit. Wouldn't it be nice to see a modern day C.J.Dennis come along to brighten out days?

It would be just lovely. We all have our dark times, some deal with their's quietly with no fuss at all and others are sometimes overcome by the dark days. There is always a silver lining to the dark clouds, the trick is to find it.

I guess a lot of people write to express their inner turmoil.. so it does seem that sad writes abound here! I've fortunately read quite a few poets here who don't just write doom and gloom...
I definitely agree with your sentiments here!!

I am well aware that there are a lot of people who write about inner turmoil in order to help overcome it. I admire their courage but doubt the effectiveness of writing about it. I also read quite afew who have happier thoughts. My muse is not functioning normally right now, hence the 'poets paradox'. I would like more on the happy side. I appreciate your comments and thank you for taking the time.
