Always Hold Me

Before I was old enough
To understand in any way
Before I really got the reason
All the kids laughed at me

I tagged behind you everywhere
You could do no wrong
Before I saw all your weakness
I thought you were so strong

Before I heard all the whispers
Figured out the matching truths to your lies
Before I realized you were the cause
For so many of my mothers sighs

Before the years and months of silence
Before the endless pain
Before I wondered if you were the reason
Why I was slowly going insane

Before I looked in the mirror
Before I saw you staring back at me
Before I realized you were the personification
Of all I prayed to never be

Before I saw you lying in that bed
Before I knew your end was near
Before I had absorbed the pain
and quietly ignored the fears

Before I kissed you good-bye
Knowing without you my life would cease to be
I was just your baby girl
believing you'd always hold me

Author notes

This is about my father.  Before his death.  Before all the drama and confusion and f*kups.  Before all that he was my daddy and I was his baby girl.  Sometimes I wish I hadn't been a daddy's girl because a lot of the things I saw I wouldn't have.  But in everything there is a lesson and in love there should never be regrets.  Before it all I was a Daddy's Girl...

    Well written!!!

    JayLynn,

This was a very sad poem. One that came right from the heart -I can tell!
I don't have much to say about this, sorry, I am speechless.
That must have been hard on you though. Try to remember the good memories that will last a lifetime! Keep them close to your heart.

Keep on writing from the heart and soul.

    Sincerely,

    Nelak

    BRAVO, JAYLYNN!!!!!!!!
