Get Over It

Missing image

Simply, I find it pathetic

when you have an opinion

differing from another,

and  it is taken personally and they become offended.

Although, it really has nothing at all to do with them.

Then, they hide;

behind any means possible,

as to not listen to reason.

Wisdom is a gift

and ignorance is bliss,

for those who hide behind ignorance

are made to feel smarter.

I pray to never be so bold

as to blatantly attack someone

who's undeserving.

Just because....

they don't allow prewritten poetry in a contest.

First, I am filled with wonder

as to why this upsets someone.

Then, I want to laugh

at their words of haughtiness.

I now understand clearly,

the simplicity, yet profoundness

of the short phrase,

"Get over it!"

Author notes

This isn't written to anyone who seeks contests with prewrites, or who asks if a contest host would reconsider to open to prewrites.
This is for someone who gets a belligerent tone, and scoffs at another for exercising their harmless desire to host a contest their way.

Just wanted to get if off my mind.

Forgive Them, For They Know Not What They Do...

I find that when I get criticized, it's because I'm not doing the same as the critic. If they want me to write free verse, and not end-line, abab rhyme it's because that's what they write.

Many critics want the criticized one to be conformed to their image.

Sounds like something that happened at the Fall, huh?
If you eat of this tree, you will be like God. Ever since then we want others to be like us.

I know Whom I'm to pattern myself after now, with a little light from above. I'm sure you do as well.

There's a lot of liberty in that, especially when it comes to something as petty as contest rules.

    God bless, sis!

you go sam! i don't enter to many pre writes only if asked by people with integrity who judge fairly, what turns my stomach are the lazy people who rather churn a poem that already has a cup over and over just to boost their ego...the ones i would enter are poems i felt were ignored by dishonest judges...ignor the idiots if they can't comprehend you're asking for a fresh write

LOL. I think all us contest holders have been there, and been through this. What I hate even worse than this is when they actually get upset over the type of contest you are hosting.
I appreciate your contests and enjoy reading the entries even if I don't have a chance to enter. So thank you for making this site a bit more creative.

That is the beauty of this site. We are here to write, share and learn. Contests are the creation of the owner of that contest... that is the other beauty. You have a right to hold it your way. I dont usually want prewritten poems either. It's all about personal taste ya know? I'd just let it go. Obviously whoever is upset has no right to be.. and it's not your problem.

    I agree.. "get over it"

    AH SAM !

When vexed by someone's stupidity. Just go deep inside and know that they are only being that way because they lack depth of knowledge. They also lack confidence and they certainly should be ignored. Their power is in causing effect. With no effect they are nothing. You are blessed my friend and have no room in your life for foolish people. Forget they exist. because they are as important as a used piece of toilet paper.

I have been there Sis'. Not to worry over trivialities! Sometimes people get frustrated over the smallest things, and there is something underlying that makes them behave that way. It really has little to do with being able to submit a "rewrite in a contest". Forgive their short-sightedness, and move on. You are worth far more to so many than having to explain a decision you have every right to make when holding a contest where your points, time, and judgement are involved. I feel the amazement, and wonder written here, and know first hand how one can become perturbed over such a thing. Your emotions spill over here. It's gonna be alright!

    Much Love ♥

Boy!! When you tell it like it is...you really tell it like it is. Good for you. It seems like in today's world, there are so many people who need to "Get Over It," You couldn't have a contest big enough to comply with all of them. But your way seems to have done it all. Congratulations.
