Setting Sail

First day of school, I walked my child
alongside all the other kids.
They stood outside with their new packs
awaiting teacher's greeting call.

Alongside all the other kids
and mothers waiting patiently,
they stood excited and prepared
- their educations to begin.

They stood outside with their new packs,
admiring and wondering
when would the school doors open up,
what would this special journey bring?

Awaiting teacher's greeting call,
they flocked to her when she appeared
and turning, waved to see us off -
their time to board the ship had come.

What a lovely poem! I wish I could be an Erstklässler again - it was a time of so much excitement and new experiences, I miss it so much. Now I'm old (lol) and school isn't that much fun anymore... I used to love it...

    Thanks for sharing!

Interesting. You bring a sense of nostalgia (to this reader at least) that flows into quiet emotions. A very good write!

It's a day of mixed emotions. There are elements of intense pride mixed with the sense of change. Beautifully expressed.

There IS a special excitement about that first day back to school. The schedules and the conversation and the seasons change, like setting sail, yes.

I am not at all skilled enough to critique the form but the scene you've presented is all too familiar, and makes me wish my children were still that youthful school age. I miss the involvement, and all those bright, hopeful faces beeming. Thanks for the meories.

I wish you well in the challenge. Sorry it has taken months of Sundays to visit your works again dear friend.

    Much Love Always ♥
