Must be the coins
I feed in the pay phone slot
stopping just in hopes
of hearing your voice again,
that you made you ignore the ring,
because I wish you'd quit
being so busy
keeping score
on who is champion
in this tug of war
between my heart
and your desires.
Wish you would tell me
when you've ended the game,
let me know if you've found
someone else to play,
so I can stop leaving my heart
on the board where you push it around,
never letting me tell
if you'll still want it as a prize
or just a piece to abuse and sacrifice.
In the middle of the night
my mind puts on rerun
that first time we raced as though
there was nothing to keep us
from catching thunder,
how I thought it was forever,
leaving me shaking for the chase.
But now that is just a page
crumbled on the floor of my head,
ever wishing you give me the coins
to bring back what never comes through
on the phone again.
Guess you're shouting from another victory
so won't do any good to call,
only wait till you figure out
if I'm still given one more turn
at your contest using my emotions
as a volleyball.
Author notes
For option #2 2. Sometimes, giving up just means that you're strong enough to let go.

You know I loved everything about this poem, except the last stanza. I thought it was a bit redundant. Otehrwise it's strong enough to be mindboggling a man can come up with this expression, hit this close to home. Amazing. Okay better than amazing, this is awesome.
best wishes,
