The Cat
Sits by the window
What is he watching?
Drops of rain, falling on the stone patio?
Prey?
Leaves, swirling in a miniature cyclon?
Does he feel connected to the outside world?
Do they give him pleasure?
Are they gold-framed pictures,
immortalized forever in his mind?
Or are they butterflies, flitting across the dull terrain of life,
gone as soon as they are discovered? Forgotten?
Why does the cat stare out the window?
Author notes
I thought of this when I saw my cat staring out the window, as he does every day...
Did this cause any emotion?

I thought of Oscar Wilde's poem "The Sphinx" as I read this. You have a very rhythmical and satisfying edge (or ledge
) to your poems.
Your descriptions make interesting a very useless question, and that in my eyes is the chief accomplishment of this poem. You accomplished so much in a single moment of idleness!
I think the cat was looking for such inspiration.
Cheers!

Good
Cats are lovely mystical creatures. They meditate like Buddha.
