Life on Earth

My refuge is the earth;
the song of it, and
the written word

Language of flowers
and leaves, innocent
breath of growing things

Sun, my constant inspiration
as the kindness of human beings;
clouds expressive imagination.

Nature sometimes seems
furious and ugly; she
seeks peace, ultimately.

Constructions of modern lifestyle feel
largely incompatible with me now

I suppose this to be both curse
and blessing, somehow.

I stand in the refuge,
rooted;
reaching

Outwards and upwards,
I dance
silently

As a tree;
my own limbs
pose like branches

My face,
my soul
seeking radiance

Although I am weatherbeaten,
I attempt to continue on;
hopefully

To make a contribution,
perhaps of shelter, or
a seed of inspiration.

My refuge is the earth;
the song of it, and
the written word.

    thanks for entering;

    this poem has a beautiful flow to it, and I almost had to go back and read it again to capture the meaning of the poem after just reading it through to savour the words and rhythm. Breathtaking ninth stanza.

    good luck!

    Very well written and expressed. Nature can be very volitale, especially when we do not observe the fact we are ruining it with all of our pollution. Very good imagery and flow. Thank you for entering and best of luck in the contest.

    What an inspirational write...so though provoking. A beautiful peace of poetry that has touched me deeply.
    Maybe a good title might be "A tribute to all that is Me" just a thought.

    i like the feel of this poem. it keeps its points central, but the short simple stanzas do well to branch out and touch on many different things. overall, it has a light, airy feeling to it, and sometimes you need a poem like that to cleanse the pallet.a pleasure to read
