Anonymous dollars for the bus ride
Packed like gutted sardines,
Swaying in bored indifference
Drab corporate colors,
Cubicle walls may as well be prison bars,
Sighing when the computer
Takes forever to boot,
Bitter coffee grounds wading
In the bottom of the cup
Cafeteria line, milling with little interest,
Think I'll have a salad today,
Thoughts that thousands have thought before me,
That thousands more will think in the future
Another rat in the maze,
Another cow led to the slaughterhouse,
Crush my skull in, I might not notice
Sighing in rush-hour traffic
And the weight of a world that doesn't know me
Sits squarely upon my shoulders,
Another Atlas forced against his will
To choke off dreams and hopes
Author notes
The movie Citizen X is actually the true story of a Russian serial killer, who is in fact the most prolific murderer in the history of serial murder. But the title evokes so many different things in my mind, things that by and large have nothing to do with that, hence this piece.
Good luck to the other contestants, and thanks!

It's a good poem... I loved the allusion to Atlas at the end... but it seems that if you DID read my rules, you forgot to add a little something in your author comment... could you please go back and edit that so I won't have to disqualify you? Thank you!
Kate
