Send my card in dusty sky,
burning east to prairie eyes,
this silken silhouette of saturated summer
calling autumn in closer carpet.
I wonder
where the wind blows morn,
when gratitude is worn, wet dripping
born in blood;
slipping number
braving winter's metallic verse,
as one more test of skin's endurance.
Read my aching wish for immortality,
not as season twisting Nature's sigh,
where love is seed to dormant arms
and last-leaf treason, clinging tighter bond
beyond the space where hope is heaven;
but self,
as savior
to night-star trilling,
her earthy words
willing softer singers in celestial dancing,
still watching clock
to strike at midnight.
Hold my gift
to breathe your higher lungs of aspen,
quaking golden sounds of frosted fingers,
where now is new, to follow through
the air that lingers
in lines of hue,
I keep forever.

A tribute from friend to friend in the unique way you ahve of managing words, putting phrases aright, taking emotion by the hand and leading it on a path only you know so well. Bravo!

"her earthy words

Beautiful poetry, Rich. I'm sure she will hold this gifts and all the other gifts you've given her in that very special place deep within. This one will stay with her - not just for this birthday!

"Hold my gift
to breathe your higher lungs of aspen"
I hold all of your gifts tightly inside my heart, dear Scribe...where they are safe, surrounded with warmth, friendship & love. What a lovely penning this is, Sweetie. So many images that leapt into my eyes, lingering there forevermore. Thank you for Being, my Friend. Good luck in Carol's contest...you've always only been a gold~winner in my eyes.
