He said:
Poetry is not work
then plied stained fingertips
to a piece of paper
yellowing with age
a Michaelangelo
wearing hair off brushes,
his push and pull
scraped rust off words
until he was left
on a scaffold
seeing his mistakes
pulse of pressed pen
like fingernail prying
at scab
that was not work

for AJ in admiration for the comment he left a long time ago, that angered me at first, but then opened my eyes...a hard pry! *smile*

i like that you used something personal as inspiration, i only could wish it was not work, lol
but i can, with no problem, believe it comes easy to him.

He does make it look easy, doesn't he?
effortless even
a wonderful tribute

Think we all get to the place we are by a road not planned, and the people we acquire along the way, influences... friends..have so much to do with who we are, who we may become...wonderful message here...and honor for someone truly deserving...PK

If it's not work, then why do so many of us labor well into the night to discover the hidden, fragile tendrils of ivy leading us into the forest? As one writer said (probably slightly misquoted), "Writing is easy; you just open a vein." If it is work, then it is a work of love & admiration ~ for linguistics, for imagery, for observation, for capturing a moment with vivid textures, for displaying one's soul while standing upon a splintered wooden stage, hoping it doesn't collapse under one's feet. Marvelous penning, Sweetie. I'm sure it will please Al to know he'd had such an impact on another, let alone another writer..especially one of your caliber. Good luck in Mary's contest, Sweetie.
