that cigarette is gone

my shadow glows
against brick buildings
and i think of you.
a buzz consumes my soul
and i wish on the full moon
that wavers, uncertain
behind a small town bell tower.

the cigarette in my hand is you
and i inhale, deeply.
hoping for your scent to seep
into my lungs and hair, to leek
out into the damp night.

beneath all my remembering
there is a sadness
that’s unexplainable.
i let that fact burn
right down to the filter.

I apologise profoundly for the delay in judging. I had some serious health issues to deal with and, for reparation I will be sending each participant some points by way of sincere apology. Thank you for your entry.

Killer ending and a wonderful build toward that moment. The over-arching metaphor is perfectly set. All in all, a very adroit work.
