Teenage/Parental Distress

Sometimes I’m so confused at the extreme disposition of others
Smiling one moment the next holding a grudge against your mother
I must be an Idiot Savant because that just doesn’t seem right
Me trying to placate you about something we didn’t even fight

It is arbitrary to be on one accord even in disagreement
Turning complexion as I attempt to discuss feelings vehemently
Suddenly you’re not speaking to me you say; over loud music playing
While liquid drips from your eyes as my eardrums are decaying

You’re feeling nostalgia hurt and confused this I understand, I do
Looking at the shadows under my eyes still believe, I was once a teen just like you
I carried you in my womb for nine months and eight very long days
It was sheer poetry the way you entered this world I was amazed

So don’t tell me its some prophecy that mother and child must disagree
My heart is not made of stone but that’s the way you some times treat me
Talk to me I’ll listen and I’ll hear you and I’ll love you all the more
In the mornings or twilight hours especially before you close your door

I often feel as if I’ve stepped on coral while playing the cornet, tip toeing and blasting you all at the same time.
You could always find me in my resin chair reading, and drinking lemon lime
I’ve never partied or gone to cabarets leaving you home alone
So remember, when you’re mad I’m here if you need me and I’ll be here when you come home
