It’s a fishy tail of woe I tell
Being doomed from the start
When the mummy offered the mermaid
A precious piece of his heart
Having hooked up on the Internet
He travelled from afar
To give his chat room lover
A little something from his jar
For his organs had been extracted
And pickled in some brine
Three thousand years later
They still look pretty fine
He said ‘Come join me lover
In my kingdom on the Nile’
She agreed immediately
With a coy and knowing smile
But while the lonely mummy
Lived in his giant pyramid
The selfish scheming mermaid
Below the river's surface hid
She lazed around the Nile all day
Merely basking in the shallows
While the mummy worked his butt off
Making sure the sun just rose
She threatened to fill his sarcophagus
With plankton and sea water
Until finally he caved in
And a deluxe Jacuzzi he bought her
This bone idle mermaid
Was just on the take
It wasn’t long before the mummy realised
He’d made a huge mistake
He only wanted some loving
But it wasn’t meant to be
Because mermaids like their freedom
And swimming in the sea
So reluctantly he let her go
Philosophical to a degree
‘What the heck’ He thought
‘There’s plenty more fish in the sea’

This is a really funny little narrative
I really like the way that it rhymes so effortlessly and just seems so natural - the ending was hilarious and I love the picture that you chose to go with it!
Keep writing
Polly
